When we were looking for information (and assurance that the agency wasn't fake), we talked to a good number of people who used the agency to see how the experience went for them. Everyone will have a different journey. Ask what went according to plan, what went wrong, how much it cost them, and if they would do it again. 

To be completely honest, we did not really consider other countries for surrogacy outside of Mexico due to its proximity to us. As such, we do not really know how other countries compare in terms of their laws and structures. We do know that Mexico worked wonderfully for us and there seems to be no best one-size fits all answer. 

Surrogacy in the US is extremely expensive and not an option for everyone. If you have insurance and the biological makeup to be covered for such services, then that is likely true. As two gay men, we do not get health insurance reimbursement for any of these costs. If we did this in the US, it would be double to triple the costs. Also keep in mind most of the surrogacy costs you see in the US assume you already have viable embryos ready to implant.
